ABOUT
John Young (born 1995) is a London-based composer who specialises in music for media.
He has worked on a broad range of soundtracks for films, games, TV (Channel 4's Escape to the Chateau) and commercials (with A-Mnemonic Music Productions).
Stylistically he draws from his background in electronic music as a touring band member on keyboards and synths, his classical training as a violinist and pianist, and his love of jazz harmony and improvisation. He is inspired by electronic artists such as Tim Hecker at one end of the spectrum, and by the likes of Prokofiev at the other—as well as by jazz musicians such as Kenny Wheeler, Pat Metheny and Tim Garland.
He read music at the University of Oxford, but was also offered a Foundation Scholarship to study Composition at the Royal College of Music. He then pursued an MFA in Composing for Film, TV and Games at the National Film and Television School.
