John Young is a London-based composer or film, TV, games and commercials, with credits spanning 30+ films and several games, as well as Channel 4’s Escape to the Chateau and commercial work with A-Mnemonic Music Productions.
 

His music has been recorded at AIR Studios' Lyndhurst Hall in London, performed by musicians from some of the UK's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra and BBC Symphony Orchestra.

Films he scored have been officially selected for festivals worldwide, including the Oscar-qualifying Santa Fe International Film Festival, and the BAFTA-qualifying London International Animation Festival and Norwich Film Festival.

Stylistically he draws from his classical training as a violinist and pianist, his love of jazz harmony and improvisation, and his experience in electronic music as a touring band member on keyboards and synths. He is inspired by electronic artists such as Tim Hecker at one end of the spectrum, and by classical composers like Prokofiev at the other—as well as by jazz musicians such as Kenny Wheeler.

He read music at the University of Oxford, but was also offered a Foundation Scholarship to study Composition at the Royal College of Music. He then pursued an MFA in Composing for Film, TV and Games at the National Film and Television School.
